The Harris sextuplets were born to Chris and Diamond Harris of Birmingham, Alabama on July 7, 2002. They are America's first recorded set of surviving African-American sextuplets. The fact that the babies were born with no medical conditions or deformities, further distinguishes them among the recorded births of sextuplets.
The Babies, Kiera, Kalynne, Kaleb, Kobe, Kieran and Kyle round out the Harris family, joining their older brother Dewayne.
Chris Harris is an elementary school teacher. His wife, Diamond is a licensed practical nurse who is currently attending nursing school full time. Since the birth, the Harris family has struggled to live on Chris's salary of $30,000 per year. Despite some family an community support and public appearances including the new home they received through the Extreme Makeover Home Edition TV show, the couple has found meeting the financial demands of their large family a constant struggle. They rely on their faith in God to keep them going. |
